Remedy Da Franchise is one of the hardest working women in the game. She is once again gracing her fans with another video. This track features fellow recording artist Semi Ice with production by Paramount Beats.

The track opens with a bass heavy beat that screams of the down south sound this emcee has mastered. Two female rappers on a collaborative track. Hip-Hop needs to see more of this.

With the stark white back drop and black and white reel, this DLOW MC ENT directed video showcases these two women, without all the unnecessary glitz. Remedy goes hard in this track while rocking a dope vintage belted pants and blouse look. Challenging the image of what a female emcee “should” look like.

Three minutes in and Remedy is challenging the notions of the stigma often attached to the south, her flow is impeccable and strong. The anticipation builds to see what Semi Ice is going to bring to the table.

Bring it she does, Semi Ice has a voice that contrast and compliments Remedy well. She brings to mind the girl that is the sassy best friend all women need in their life and all men chase after.

The video is simple but works in it’s simplicity. These ladies knocked this track out the park and dare you not to bounce with them.

One of the most consistent emcees in the game, Tragedy Khadafi, has blessed his fans with a track that is full of promise for projects to come. Accompanied by a video, “Mental Journey” is Queensbridge’s son at his finest.

Khadafi has always been about growth and progression. “Mental Journey” continues the path he forged many years ago. With the expected hard hitting production Khadafi has managed to keep the sound his fans have come to expect while remaining relevant and modern. Progression without becoming unrecognizable.

The D. Gomez directed video is gritty and dark and the perfect accompaniment to this teaser of a track. Fans can expect to be blessed ones again by Khadafi’s lethal lyrical delivery and story telling.

New York City should be proud to call him their own.

Female rappers, yes we all hear your groans. This is, and has been the hardest genre for women to make a mark and break into. With artists like Remedy Da Franchise that should soon change.

With very few female Emcees out there fighting to make a difference, Remedy takes on a hard to break genre. The club banger, the down south sound, and the trap house music is missing a female voice. Do you sell sex, looks or lyrics?

This Orlando dynamo does all without falling into the “hood girl” follow behind the man formula. She stands alone and stands strong. With a strong yet sexy style she breaks the mold.

On her single “Don’t Test Me” she stands tall and proud. With a gritty backdrop, it is just Remedy and her lyrics, with a nice deep, down south sound. The bass will resonate in anyone’s speakers and her feminine yet strong voice should chase all the haters away.

This is the chick that the south needs. The female bravado in a mostly male world, staying cute yet having a strong voice to counter all the masculine swagger. If you are in the club and hear this song throw some elbows out and run the men off the dance floor. This is a true club banger for the ladies.

Derek Christoff is a name many have never heard of, and in the world of overstuffed egos who think they are famous, when the only people who know them are their immediate family, finding an artist who can admit that is rare. Christoff does just that in his humorous “anti-press release.”

Penning an open letter to “America” he opens with “I know you very well, but you don’t know me at all.” If his rhymes are as good as his penmanship that may soon change.

Hailing from Canada, Christoff works under the name D-Sisive. The irony of him sticking with the pseudonym he chose as a young teen with rap dreams may be lost on some but others, who think and have a dry sense humor will realize he could have changed this as he aged but then what would be the fun in that.

The music. That is what this is really all about.

His EP “Run With The Creeps,” opens with a into titled “Run.” With a disjointed almost industrial sounding beat, this is not a track that you will hit replay on. It is just the intro though, and who really listens to those over and over. If the “intro” of the intro was not over a minute long it would be a nice start. The second half of the song shows lyricism and promise.

The following track “The Invisible Man” is dope. For those who don’t know who this man is, this track starts the introduction well. Telling a tale of struggles, both in life and professionally. This track paints a dark picture, but also of a man lost, heading to light again. This could be anyone’s story and the lyrical flow and truth telling works perfectly. With a nicely place homage to Notorious Big’s track “My Downfall” Christoff ends the track with the bravado that any dope lyricists needs.

This album is dark and emotional but it works so well. The imagery he paints is of a dark smokey studio, scraps of discarded, lyric filled paper riddling the floor. No bottles being popped and no bling. This is grimy, painfully heartfelt Hip-Hop.

This album plays pretty solid throughout. It is riddle with homages to music of all genres. Music nerds will have a good time figuring out all the references. The word play is solid and will make you listen more than just casual. The production is understated in a fitting way.

Christoff has no place on mainstream radio. He knows this though, and those that listen to these stations are not meant to be his fan base. It is just a matter of these tracks catching the attention of underground and online DJ’s, when that happens America will surely know his name.

Brooklyn native Len “Tuac” Xiang has had a long, and at times hard road. From these struggles has come greatness, he has found his place in the world. With his debut album, “Higher Ground” Xiang shows that with struggle and determination comes true art.

His struggles are not evident when you meet him. His bright smile is framed by eyes that tell of his fathers Laotian roots. While his warm cinnamon skin pays homage to his mother. With tattoos that peek out of his collar, he is in every essence what you want your crooners to look like. His personality and warmth make both young and old want to reach out and touch him. If only to get some of the energy that he radiates.

Growing up in Brooklyn’s infamous Marcy projects in the 1980s Xiang was in the middle of Hip-Hop at it’s earliest stages. He was also growing up during the drug epidemic that swept our country and the violence that came with it.

Xiang immersed himself in music. In the beginning it was the sound of his streets; Hip-Hop. After toiling away for years in an at times thankless genre, he went back to what he loved first. Soulful R&B. He credits his mother as influencing the soulful sound that he infuses into his music.

“… my mom is the reason why my music vocabulary is so strong,” recollects Xiang, “because she listened to Elvis, KISS, Marvin Gaye, The Beach Boys, she brought everybody home.”

Xiang has the ability to channel all of these artists, as he sings snippets of their songs, he captures their voice perfectly. It can bring you into his childhood home with the melting pot of sounds where a little boy gained a unique ear that has carried into his adult life.

While he can sing just like all the artists he loves, he has his own unique voice. The rawness of his lyrics combined with the heartfelt emotion behind every note transports you into a landscape of love, pain and happiness. Each emotion is there and in a very authentic way.

Xiang was living the struggles of everyday life, taking care of his family and hard at work, while he pushed his music to the side a bit. He finally immersed himself in his craft and focused on it in a way that is so very Brooklyn, he sang on the subway.

“I had no money…It was around Christmas time and I had just lost my job.” recalls Xiang. “I was broke.”

A band mate of his had told him while they were on tour that he sang on the train when he did not have other gigs. In his moment of desperation Xiang took that advice and ran with it.

“I made a hundred bucks in a couple of hours…just signing, doing what I love to do.I came out and went to McDonald’s and bought some food, it was the tastiest meal,” laughed Xiang, “because I finally made money off my art, and fed my self, and when that happened…that was the moment, that no matter what, I will always do this. This is what I love to do.”

With this debut album, voice overs and a multitude of acting gigs lined up (look for him in an upcoming episode of CSI) Xiang will only be busking on the train to bring smiles to the masses of grumpy commuters.

His soulful voice, engaging personality and infectious smile will be winning over fans for years to come. As long as his journey to self discovery has been, it is this path that led him to where he is, and he is gifting fans with his story, and what a story it is.

Following the release of “Ask About Me” off his highly anticipated album, “Fishnet Skyscrapers,” Geechi Suede (of Camp Lo) has now released a video. The only thing to say about this track is it is DOPE. Hard hitting, yet with smooth production that is the perfect background to Geechi Suede’s flawless voice.

His rapid fire lyrics are fun yet intelligent. Showing the lyrical prowess he is know for, he sets the bar high for his new album.

The video holds up to this track well. Directed by Boogiebanerz, the video is visually orgasmic. Geechi Suede looks impeccable as he spits his unpredictable rhymes. The ladies will swoon, while the true lyrical connoisseurs, male and female will salivate.

With the Parisian backdrop glowing behind him, Geechi Suede brings us on an eclectic journey. His lyrics are those of which no one can even attempt to copy. He flows so fast and artistically sound, that he will have listeners hitting replay again and again. Finding different meaning each time.

Poetry comes to mind. Poems are up to the reader to interpret, and listening to Geechi Suede gives us that luxury. Arguing over lyrical content is a lost art of Hip-Hop past no more.

“I got warp speed engines, a plethora of pigeons..”

This is one of many verses on this track that should have you questioning your vocabulary and interpretation of words.

Geechi Suede can be quoted for days, only those that appreciate art, culture and life will even begin to crack this talented man. He is a true Picasso of Hip-Hop with Mona Lisa mirrors..

This video is flawless, showcasing architectural beauty, hip hop, lyricism and the art of words.

With a packed roster of Hip-Hop heavyweights. Fans have come to expect quality music. This promise of quality is what brought journalists, radio personalities, bloggers and a few lucky fans to the listening party for “The Solution.”

Duck Down Music, whom Buckshot is co-founder of, and Jamla Records, which is the brainchild of 9th Wonder, hosted the listening party at the legendary Theater 80.

Thelonious Monk, Harry “Sweets” Edison, John Coltrane and Frank Sinatra performed at Theater 80 when it was a prohibition era speakeasy. Since all music stems from the Jazz greats, this was a ironic and suitable homage to the past while moving into the future.

As the crowd took to their seats, the anticipation was heavy.

Every fan of Hip-Hop is a product of it, we have grown up on it, matured with it, and while our tastes may change with age, the love stays the same. Not many of us are truly born in it though. That, to some aspiring emcees may sound like a blessing, you have a edge, or do you? When your parent/s are Hip-Hop legends it may be even more difficult to find your way. Are you on because of your family, or are you on because you are just that good.

Young Dane is one of those artists. The son of the legendary Dana Dane, he may be judged for the positive or negative because of this so lets give this artist the benefit of the doubt, and not judge him off his legacy. He has released his debut mix-tape, the aptly named, “Blood Of A King“ playing homage to his Hip-Hop lineage.

After a heartfelt intro the tape opens with “Off Track” the perfect bravado track. Laying out the blueprint that he is not to be taken lightly. The production is solid and the lyrics have actual content, making it clear in the first few verses he earned his spot and did not just inherit it. With a solid beat and lyrics like; “I’m ahead of my time like light years, no buzz till I’m someone they might fear…” If you don’t get the double entendre listen again. Young Dane is off to a solid start.

The title track “Blood of a King” starts off heavy, with Young Dane emphasizing every lyric. While at first hard to get with after the first track, it easily becomes a track that will have you nodding your head. He shows his diversity and appeal to not just his native New York audience. Channeling Kanye in the intro, reminiscent to the unexpected flow in “Niggas in Paris” and at times Lil Wayne(via his mix-tape era),he bridges Hip-Hop in a way that seems familiar but is actually new and fresh. He transitions from a nice lazy hook to heavy and very fast paced lyrics. This track gets respect for both cadence and lyrical content.

After that hard hitting, fast paced track, “Little Time” will bring you back to a “turn the lights down and chill mood” this is a lady friendly track while still not straying into the “crying and pleading” Hip-Hop track. It tells a realistic version of the complications of young love. Light up and relax.

This tape could easily be dissected track by track. There is truly a new sound for each track on this one mix-tape. It transitions well and showcases all branches of this Hop-Hop genre. Instead of being categorized by one style this truly encompasses all of what makes Hip-Hop great. If you are a true connoisseur of this art this is a MUST download. I will leave that up to you though.

Young Dane ends this great creation with a poignant track that shows this did not get handed to him. That even though he has a father who IS Hip-Hop, he still has his own voice, and has had the struggles that any artist has. While all struggle, each owns their own in a different way. Young Dane has earned it while still being aware of what he had the opportunity to do. He sums it up by spitting solid and deep lyrics such as: “Cause legendary is definitely a legacy, I wonder what kind of king will be the son of me…”

Hip-Hop lineage at it’s best. It is obvious Young Dane put thought and work into this album, and we should all expect to hear from him for years to come. While doing homage to his Hip-Hop legacy Young Dane has stepped, not out of his fathers shadow but next to it. This whole tape is radio ready. Listen, Share and Enjoy.

G-Swagg has been putting in work. The Queens bred MC has balanced life with music. That is something many emcees can’t always do. Being raised in the Beach 40th houses in Far Rockaway gave him the life experience to relate to the struggle of the every-man. While he did not succumb to a life of crime, this life birthed a driven artist. He is someone that people can relate to no matter where they came from. Balancing a mix of odes to love with the sharp street lyrics we all enjoy, he has been making big moves.

As an independent artist he has caught the attention of both the mainstream and underground. G-Swagg has performed at the legendary Williamsburg Music Hall, Santos Party House (NYC), S.O.B.’s, Sway (NYC), Trash Bar in Brooklyn and even opened at the Best of the Best concert in Miami, Florida which featured Rick Ross, Diddy and Nicki Minaj. G-Swagg has built what every indie artist needs, a fan base that cares about his next move.

He has graced the airwaves of Fat Boy Radio, PNC Radio, Real Deal Radio, DTF Radio and the Sunday Night Cook-Up. He was a new artist guest for UrbanLatinoRadio.com’s “Do or Die” segment with Pretty Lou Ortega and won on a unanimous vote which earned him a slot in their upcoming showcase just to name a few. His song, “Private Affair” was used as the entrance theme song for Wendy Williams’ inaugural episode for her TV Show “The Wendy Williams Show.”

These alone are dope accomplishments for any artist, but this has not made G-Swagg lazy. He is embarking on new ventures and still grinding daily with a voice that is original sounding, while still making you reminisce for days when Hip-Hop was familiar. With this single he will have you transported to the humid days of a childhood summer, with open fire hydrants, men on the corner drinking and the kids splashed through the water. A hip-hop time machine but never dated.
